The Griffins are heading to Springfield

The Simpsons will appear in an hour long episode of Family Guy in the fall of 2014 when Peter & the rest of the Griffin family head out on a road trip and wind up in Springfield. Aptly titled "The Simpsons Guy" the two families will cross paths and quickly become close friends; with each character pairing off with they're counterpart.

Peter and Homer argue over which beer is superior - Duff or Pawtucket Patriot. Rich Appel (former producer on The Simpsons and current co-execute producer on Family Guy) hinted at Comic Con 2013 that a possible chicken fight between the pair may also occur. Lois bonds with Marge and Lisa tries to help Meg find her "special talent", while Stewie is both impressed and fascinated by Bart's old school pranks.

Simpsons regulars Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith and Hank Azaria will provide there usual vocal talents for the instalment, but with the exception of just two notes from The Simpsons executives it was penned entirely by the Family Guy writing staff.

While both shows have taken there shots at each other, over the years the rivalry has grown much friendlier. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane played himself in The Simpsons' season 24 finale while Castellaneta (the voice of Homer and many others) had a one line cameo in a 2012 episode of family guy.

Some fans are worried how the two show's humour will mix, but I think with the Family Guy staff penning the script its ok to assume that we will get an edgier Simpsons then usual. Could we hear some profanity out of Homer's mouth? I'd be happier if this happened when The Simpsons was in its prime, but I remain very optimistic about this one; though good or bad this will be huge numbers for Fox.
